Katie M. Palmer is a science and tech writer with a penchant for beautiful data, geek culture, and the science we encounter everyday. She is a graduate and valedictorian of Williams College with a B.A. in chemistry and a concentration in neuroscience. After testing the waters of biochemical research and co-founding a science magazine, she traveled from the purple mountains to the big city to join the 29th class of the Science, Health and Environmental Reporting Program (SHERP) at NYU's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, where she received her Master's in 2011.

In 2009, Katie was the recipient of a travel fellowship to the AAAS conference given by the National Association of Science Writers (NASW). In 2010, she received the Jeffrey Owen Jones Fellowship in Journalism and was named M.A. Scholar of the 29th SHERP class. She has worked at DISCOVER magazine, NPR's Studio 360 for the Sloan-funded Science & Creativity series, and IEEE Spectrum. She is currently an assistant research editor at Wired magazine, where she writes and wrangles facts in feature articles. To read her recent publications, go here.
